In Tax Case, Prison for Roofers

Two operators of a Florida roofing business have pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to mail and wire fraud, as well as tax fraud.

Travis Morgan Slaughter and Tripp Charles Slaughter, both of Jacksonville, Florida, face up to 20 years in prison.

As part of their plea agreements, Travis Slaughter will forfeit $2.78 million and pay over $9.8 million in restitution, while Tripp Slaughter will forfeit $416,800 and pay more than $1.1 million in restitution.

The pair operated a roofing business under various names. From 2017 to 2020, they issued $18.5 million in untaxed checks, leaving $2.7 million in unpaid payroll taxes. Additionally, the Slaughters underreported personal incomes, with Travis Slaughter owing $2.47 million from 2014 to 2019 and Tripp Slaughter owing $263,614 from 2015 to 2019.
